0036Mark (HUN)

0036mark hungary (2)

0036Mark, a Hungarian street artist, brings the cartoon characters of Hungary’s communist era back to life with contemporary pop-cultural references. Growing up during the transition from communism to democracy in the mid-80s to mid-90s, his work reflects the blend of nostalgia and parody, influenced by the golden age of Hungarian cartoons and the influx of Western movies on VHS. His art features beloved characters from 80s and 90s cartoons, merged with elements of Hungarian pop culture and historical allusions.

Starting his artistic journey with graffiti in the 90s, 0036Mark transitioned to street art to reach a broader audience. His creative process involves conceptualizing ideas, sketching, gathering materials, and finally, printing and installing the artwork on location. His work often references specific cultural moments, such as the interruption of Duck Tales for a political announcement or featuring a Smurf with a Matyó-style tattoo.

Inspired by international artists like Fidia, Coté Escrivá, Ben Allen, and Matt Gondek, 0036Mark also values the contributions of local artists to Hungary’s urban art scene. He aims to make the streets more unique and engaging, encouraging people to appreciate the vibrant art around them and to look around more attentively.
